Over the last few years, my friends have created a new persona…Fat Yip. They don’t say it to hurt me, or so I think, but more of a funny reminder that I eat A LOT, eat OFTEN, and eat CHEAP GROSS FOOD. I’ve kind of been forced to embrace it mainly because more and more people use it as my official nickname. It was funny even to me but then I started to realize that I HAVE “filled in” a lot since my college days. I still work out, play basketball, play lacrosse, and train for triathlons but I’m definitely bigger and heavier and not as cut.
Starting Monday December 5th, Fat Yip will go on a journey to find the skinny. I’ve asked for the help of my friend, Mike Kim, who is my brother’s classmate from med-school. Mike has been working on setting up “eating plans” for UFC fighters and is himself very healthy and fit. He has set up a meal by meal plan for the next 19 days for me. Feel free to follow him on twitter @mikepkim. I will be dropping my daily caloric intake from 2500-3000 to about 2250. My eating plan (I refuse to use the word diet) will consist almost exclusively of proteins with VERY little carbohydrates. People who know me know I can push myself in many respects especially physically but my weakness and downfall is my stomach. I have trouble controlling my hunger and basically whenever I am hungry I eat whatever I want no matter what time it is.
This eating plan is truly going to test my will power to become a healthier human being. That is my main goal of this endeavor. I’m not doing this to lose weight specifically but more so to change to a more healthy and sustainable lifestyle that will help as I approach my late 20’s. Side bonuses to completing this are that I wil save a lot of money because I currently eat out for both lunch and dinner everyday and hopefully also get ripped and in shape like I used to be. I will use this blog as my daily diary of my progress. You’ll be able to see my struggles and triumphs as I try to change Fat Yip to Skinny Yip. Actually, I’ll always be Fat Yip regardless of what I physically look like and how I eat but you get the point.

Go Yip! I read the book 4 hour body and although I definitely don’t follow it strictly I try to use the principles to guide my food decisions. I’m at 185 lbs and definitely feel the same constant desire to be cut at that weight. Good luck man and I am rooting for ya
Thanks Martin! We’ll see how it all goes. I usually hover between 175-180 and have gotten up to 181 a few weeks ago. My friend Mike is pretty sure I’ll drop 5lb just in the first week and maybe up to 10lb in 3 weeks! Really appreciate you rooting for me! Hope you keep up with my blog!
Awesome Jon! This is similar to the Paleo lifestyle that my friends have taken. Have you heard of it? You can check out Mark’s Daily Apple to read up more on his take on that type of lifestyle. Hope to read more on your adventures! It’s really hard to follow that especially when you live at home though. =)
