Day 5, 6, & 7 – Week 1 Wrap Up

Sorry to all my loyal readers and fans out there for taking the last few days off! I know you were all obssesively checking my blog to see what was new…haha. I spent the weekend down in San Diego to watch the Chargers Bills game with my close high school friends Dan and Giselle. Let’s wrap up my the last few days of adventures…

Friday
Friday was normal. Steak and spinach lunch at work. But then had to deal with something new. Had to also pack my dinner to work also since I would be taking Bart straight to OAK airport. The problem was I had to nuke (microwave) my dinner in the office then hope it would still be warm by the time I ate at the airport. Got to airport around 5:30pm for my 8:50pm flight. Why the hell was I there so early? a) wanted to leave work b) figured might as well try to go standby on the 6:50pm flight. Didn’t work out so great. It would have cost me $110 to leave 2 hrs earlier which was more than my original flight! I thought oh well, I’ll just do what I do second best (after eating) and that’s napping. Too bad the seat I chose by my gate was quickly surrounded by an entire family who happened to be sharing and enjoying bomb smelling margarita pizza. Not cool. My stomach was already grumbling and it was only 6:30pm. I had a dilemma. I could either appease my appetite but risk being hungry later in the night or hold out as long as I could but then enjoy my not-so-warm-anymore salmon and broccoli. Decided to do the latter and force myself to nap. 30mins later I crushed my food.
Landed and was picked up by my brother. I wasn’t as excited as usual to see him. Not because I don’t enjoy seeing my bro but because it has been tradition for the last 4-5 years that whenever someone picks me up at the airport in SD they HAVE to bring me a california burrito with guacamole from the one and only Santanas (now called FRESHMXNFOOD and at several locations throughout SD which I dislike but honestly best burrito in the world). It was a painful ride to my parents’ house knowing I could be eating a cali. 5% of me was trying to convice myself it’s ok to get an innocent burrito. It’s not like somebody would die if I ate one. But the other 95% quickly stood strong and said I couldn’t let myself, Mike, or any of YOU guys down. Chugged my chocolate flavored water and said bye to my bro who HAD to throw in “you don’t want to know where I’m going” before he left…

Saturday
Saturday morning played golf with my dad and bro. Kicked their asses as usual. Got pretty hungry during the game since I ate breakfast at 8am and wouldn’t be able to eat lunch until we got home around 2:30pm! Luckily managed to make my cashews last thru holes 10 and 11.
While I was slowly enjoying my cashews my dad of course whips out some beef jerky, smiles, and begins eating it while staring right at me. Gotta love my pops. After three pieces of jerky he moved on to his assorted nuts. At this point, I was already done with my cashews and still hungry of course. He noticed I was eyeing all of his salted almonds so he offered me one. Now I know that one almond isn’t that bad and it probably would have been ok but I still declined. I explained how this challenge is something that I want to be fully comitted to. I am proud to say that after one full week I have not ONCE broken my meal plan. Not one fry, not one chip, not one cup of tea, not one extra large portion!
After golf made it home to lunch and then went Christmas shopping with my grandma at the mall. Picked up tons of gifts which makes my life easier since I could just leave them all in SD. Got back and made some salmon and broccoli and then went to play with my nephew and niece!

My nephew, Owen, and my niece, Maddy!

Watched Cars 2 with them for a bit then read them a bed time story, tucked them in, and sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to them. Love it.
After kids were asleep around 8:30pm my bro convinced me to go trail biking with him. We ended up doing a pretty intense 2 hr/10 mi mt. bike ride through Los Penasquitos Nature Reserve from his house in PQ to Del Mar. Tons of rocks, hills, dirt, bushes, and all sorts of obstacles to go around or over. Oh yeah it was also in the dark, under the moonlight! Luckily he also convinced me to dress warmly which I usually don’t do on rides because our thermometer on the bike pc read 31 degrees at one point!!! Got back before 11pm and had to drink my supplements while he was eating again…It was such a great workout and also super fun experience. Legs were jello and slept like a baby.

Sunday
Sunday was Chargers game! Dan and Giselle came by to pick me up. Before they got me they stopped at In N Out. Now everyone knows that I love burritos and eat them 2-3 times a week (and those are mediocre burritos in the Bay). But I honestly love In N Out even MORE! If you’ve ever seen my facebook statuses you know I eat In N Out A LOT. This car ride to Qualcomm was the HARDEST MOMENT ALL WEEK. NO JOKE. The fragrance of double doubles and fries just smashing my face over and over. They ate as quickly as they could to end my torture. They felt so bad but I told them that I don’t want them to at all but yeah it sucked. I was in the backseat seriously sweating and shaking. Made myself eat all of my cashews and chug a bunch of water. I survived my hardest test yet.
We parked and headed to the stadium. At the security I got asked to open my bag. Had 4 sealed bottles of water and my purple Lakers lunch bag. Security dude checked to make sure all the waters were sealed then pointed to my lunch bag and said “What’s this?” I told him my lunch and he asked if I could open it for him. I’m sure he was expecting alcohol or something because after I pullled out an avocado wrapped in saran wrap that was placed inside of a ziplock and also a glad tupperware with steak and broccoli inside he laughed and said, “That’s the healthiest meal I’ve ever seen.” I told him I was on this diet and he laughed some more.
Got to our great seats and game was AWESOME! Got hungry and couldn’t even wait until the 2nd quarter. I’m sure I got tons of weird looks as I pulled out my tupperware and began eating steak and broccoli with a pink baskin robbins spoon (brought the spoon for the avocado and forgot a fork).

I could have only looked more Asian if I was eating rice and using chopsticks.

Even after lunch it was still difficult to not want to eat more. My nose was being raped by the smells of churros, peanuts, and worst of all hot dogs. It was hard also to not be drinking a beer. I did appreciate laughing at all the drunk idiots around me though. Game was a success after we smashed the Bills.
Got home, packed, cooked dinner and headed to airport back to SF. All weekend I did not have my scale to check my weight and body percentage. I followed my meal plan and even got a good workout on Saturday night but I somehow am nervous that I gained weight. I think it’s the fact that I got to sleep more and was just more relaxed and having fun so didn’t feel as tired like I usully do during the work week. Only one way to find out…

Day 7 – 170.2lb/15.5%

Week 1 – 5.4lb/4.8% LOST

Winning is everything.

Day 4 – Feast for a King

Day 4 overall kicked ass but lunch and the afternoon wasn’t so great. When I pulled out my spinach at lunch time for the 7th consecutive meal my stomach was churning. I also decided to eat in the break room with my coworker as opposed to at my desk in solitude. This meant smelling and looking at everyone else’s delcious savory meals. They all knew something was amiss seeing me A) eating in the breakroom since I always eat out and B) for me to be eating so much spinach instead of so many well done animal style fries from In N Out. At that point I knew I needed a meal change for dinner.
So far every lunch and dinner since Monday I’ve been eating the same exact 8oz Top Sirlion with 2 cups of spinach. I knew I could substitute the steak for salmon and found out more recently I could sub out the 2 cups of spinach for a cup of brocoli but didn’t want to until I REALLY needed it in order to make it taste that much better. Anyways before I got home I stopped at my local small Grocery Store and bought about 2 cups of organic brocolli. I then proceeded to the meat deli and with my stomach rumbling from hunger had to pull the trigger on getting 1lb of King Salmon. That orange meat never looked so tasty! And it was damn expensive at $23 per lb!

I rushed home and proceeded to cook THE BEST MEAL EVER!!! I was literally salivating watching 8oz of this beautiful regal beast cook with juices all over the pan. Side note: I did not workout like usual before dinner because I had indoor lacrosse from 9:30-11pm later in the evening. I was genuinely concerned I would have zero energy during the game and not only play badly but also get crushed and/or hurt. The salmon and broccoli dinner saved me. I’ve never felt so appeased by such a simple meal. My body felt better than ever and the game went well. With only 3 subs on my team, I basically played almost 90% of the game. I also scored 4 of my team’s 5 goals! But we lost…story of my lax career.
Day 4 killed it because I ate like a King. I had such a big smile and it took me one whole episode of How I Met Your Mother to finish my plate of food. Usually it takes me till the first commercial to be on my second plate!
I’m also flying down to San Diego right after work for the weekend to watch the Chargers destroy the Bills so I got both my lunch and dinner packed with me on the way to work. One is steak and spinach and the other is salmon and broccoli. Which should I eat for dinner at the airport!?

Day 4 – Right when I got home from lax: 171lb/16.7%, After chugging water and a shower: 171.8lb/15.5%.

Get some.

Day 3 – I’m REALLY starting to feel it…

It’s now the Day 3 evening. I’m done with all my meals and I’m chilling at my friend Victor’s place for my first real test. To hang out with friends while they are eating home cooked pizzas. I am quite full after finishing my dinner only an hour before hand but typical Fat Yip can always eat more. There’s even a bag of open Pita Chips on the coffee table about 2 ft from me. I feel great though. And by great I can barely type right now because my forearms and every part of my body is sore. Let’s start from the morning.

Eggs getting grosser. Drank it down with the Re-con strawberry flavored supplement stuff which isn’t too bad but still not used to drinking flavored powder with water. My 1 oz/like 12 cashew nuts are doing me wonders at 10am every morning. Lunch was great, no complaints. I actually found my roommates Montreal Steak seasoning last night so today’s top sirloin is much tastier than the last two days. I sat at my desk and watched the newest Family Guy on HuluPlus. My coworkers all kept conversing right at my cubicle about what they wanted to eat for lunch. They also keep gchatting me different types of food. I hate it but I also like it. It makes me stronger and I love the challenge. Afternoon 1/2 avocado was delicious as usual. Have you seen an avocado skin eaten this cleanly!?

Got home from work around 6:30pm. Was going to watch Hugo, the new Martin Scorsese film, but friends bailed on me so I didn’t want to watch alone. It was a good thing though.

I decided to run to the 24 hour on Bay Street and work out SUPER hard even though the LAST thing my body wanted to do was anything but eat, sleep, or sit down and watch TV. It was a very tough 1 mile hilly run. I lifted super hard. There were some pretty cute girls there too. I’ll be going back a little more often. Run home was seriously as hard as my last mile of my triathlon. I just had nothing in the tank at all and the last half of the mile was up-hill. Luckily, a good Kanye song came on and I got the chills and my adrenaline started pumping and I almost sprinted all the way home.

Took my supplements, ate my dinner, cooked tomorrow’s dinner and now I’m watching people drink wine, eat a fancy salad, and eating a tasty pizza.

I am so sore and tired. I can’t explain it to you any more. It’s very similar to after my first day ever of Hell Week for waterpolo my Freshman year of high school. I was too tired to go to my violin lesson and to practice violin for over a week. Toodles.
