The Adventures of Fat Yip

My journey to the healthy bod.

Day 0

on December 4, 2011

I woke up today knowing that this would be my last day of eating like crap. I thought it was going to be crummy but it turned out to be one of the best days I’ve had.

I started my day early and went to church at Reality SF with my friend Laurie and her dental classmates. I REALLY enjoyed it. I’ve been to church, both Catholic and Christian, on and off for almost 10 years now. I haven’t spent much time thinking about my faith in the last 2 years. The sermon today really hit me and I am looking forward to going back every Sunday that I can. (Could go into MUCH more detail but this blog is about Fat Yip and not my faith journey. If you want to know more about this topic then just message me. :))

After church headed over to the Apple store in Union Square to purchase the Blue Snowball mic recommended by my friend Greg. I really enjoy singing and now I’ll be able to record my vocals. It was now about lunch time and after unsuccessfully trying to contact friends to join me for lunch I decided to get my favorite sandwich in SF, from The Boy’s Deli in the back of the Polk & Green Produce Market. It was my second day in a row here. I tried to get the Italian Wedding yesterday but they were out of marinara so I ended up getting The City Boy. Today I got the Italian Wedding and it was delicious and probably over 1500 calories since I also ate a bag of Kettle BBQ Chips and a can of Sunkist.

After about 2 hours of watching TV on my couch it was now around 2:30pm and I felt extremely motivated to go on a long run. I haven’t ran more than a mile since the Pacific Grove Triathlon back in September!!! I ended up running from my place in Russian Hill all the way across the Golden Gate Bridge. On the way back I even stopped at the 24 hour fitness in the Marina to lift for another hour before I got home finally around 5:30pm. It turned out to be a long and difficult 11.5 mile run. I wasn’t really tired but was forced to walk a bit because of horrible pain in my knees. Hopefully it was temporary and will go away on my next run.

It was time to start thinking about my last meal. I tried the regular local friends again and no one answered. I knew I needed to eat something that I would be craving like crazy over the next few weeks. What did I decide on? IN N OUT OF COURSE!!! It worked out really well because I decided to take my camping pack with me to In N Out so that after I finished eating I could go to the Trader Joe’s to buy groceries and pack it in my bag and walk back home without carrying a bunch of bags in my hands.

Grocery shopping for 5 days of this diet was the EASIEST thing ever. My daily eating schedule is as follows:

Breakfast – 4 hard boiled egg-whites, 4 whole hard boiled eggs

Snack – 1 oz of cashew nuts

Lunch – 8oz Top Sirloin Steak or 8oz Salmon

2 Cups of Spinach Salad with Olive Oil

Snack – 1/2 of an Avocado

Dinner – 8oz Top Sirloin Steak or 8oz Salmon

2 Cups of Spinach Salad with Olive Oil

Needless to say, I came out with 5lbs of sirloin, 4 dozen organic eggs, 16 oz of cashew nuts (bought for 2 weeks since won’t go bad like the others and take up fridge room), 4 avocados, 4 6oz bags of spinach, and a bottle of olive oil. It cost me $101.43 for everything I’ll be eating from Monday until Friday.

In addition to these meals I am limited to ONLY DRINK WATER. So no alcohol, no caffeinated drinks, no juices, and no soda. I also have to work out before dinner every day. Seems like a lot and I know it is but I also know that I can do this. I’ll need all of your support over these next few weeks! Going to boil tomorrow’s 8 eggs right now. See you all tomorrow after Day 1!!!

Day 0 – 175.6lb, 20.3% Body Fat
